The Center for Migration Studies

New York, New York

The Center for Migration Studies ("CMS") is a New York City-based educational institution that specializes in a number of migration- related issues. The mission statement of CMS sets forth several specific goals, including a general statement of devotion “to public policies that safeguard the dignity of migrants and newcomers.”  It is through devotion to such policies that CMS works to ensure that migrants and newcomers are granted access to the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

The Endres Collection

At some point during the 1980s, CMS received sixty-four boxes of primary source documents from the personal records of Garner J. Cline and Arthur P. Endres. Both Cline and Endres served as staff attorneys to the House Judiciary Committee, Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and International Law during the period from the late 1960s to the mid 1980s. Fifty-three of the sixty-four boxes were provided by Cline and the remaining thirteen were provided by Endres.  Beginning in February of 2013, we began the examination of this collection, initially focusing only on the thirteen boxes provided by Endres (the "Endres Collection"). Prior to our review, the majority of the contents of the Endres Collection had remained unexamined since being first deposited with CMS.
